Snip - Snip - Snippety - Snippets

Surprisingly, I have been writing quite a bit in the passed week. Though unfortunately, most of those writings have been evil little plot bunnies. But more on them later (I have another whole post for them!).

Before we get too deep into snippets, however, I wanted to share this month's Character Encounter. Character Encounters are hosted by Kendra E. Ardnek at Knitted by God's Plan and you can find out more about them HERE.

This month's encounter takes place in a tree. Although mine kind of takes place in a forest of trees, not actually in a tree (because I wrote it in the car and all I could remember was that the prompt had something to do with tress).
I encounter Daniel and Varina from my spy(ish) series. They are probably my favorite characters that I have created and I haven't written anything about them since last November! I missed them. And one simply can not write about Daniel and Varina and forgo listening to the mandatory George Gershwin.

Without further ado, the encounter...

  "This map says to go left at the big evergreen. Daniel, we're in a forest, exactly which big evergreen does the map specify?" an angry female voice asked.
  "Don't blame me, I didn't write the bally thing!" replied an English-accented voice of the male persuasion.
  "But how in the world are we supposed to find the corpse if we can't even follow the murderer's map?"
  "If you ask me, the murderer never should have made a map in the first place! What sort of person kills someone and then draws a map to lead to the body?"
  "I don't know!" The female was exasperated. "Maybe he thought he would forget where he buried the body so he drew himself a map."
  "If so, why didn't he specify which big evergreen he meant?" sassed Mr. Accent.
  I, as author and creator of the two quibbling characters, decided it was high time to intervene. I had been on a youth group hike when I heard the familiar voices of Daniel Adams and Varina Webb bickering in the distance.
  So, while the rest of the group were busy eating lunch, I slipped off. I wouldn't be missed - at least not for give or ten minutes.
  I hastened towards the arguers and stepped out from behind a large evergreen before blows could be exchanged.
  The usually calm and cool Daniel was, for once, quite as flustered as his more hot-blooded companion, Varina. Both were fuming - quite literally, for it was 86 degrees outside (probably nearer to 186 in the sunshine. It's a good thing we have so many trees in the Pacific Northwest). Varina's ponytail had come mostly undone and Daniel's hat had gone askew. It looked as if they had forgotten to bring water with them, silly fools.
  "Excuse me," I said, "I couldn't help but overhear your raised voices. "Do you need any help?"
  "Ah- yes," Daniel said after a moment of scrutiny in my direction. He pushed his hat to the back of his head and walked towards me, map outstretched.
  "My name is Daniel and this is my associate, Varina. We were wondering if you knew where a big evergreen could be found."
  "Don't give her all our information!" Varina hissed. "She could be working for The Wolf!"
  "Oh, please, she's a child!" said Daniel.
  I coughed. "I'm legally an adult now, actually."
  "Oh, excuse me," Daniel said, quite courteously. "Anyway, do you have any clue where this big evergreen is?"
  "Well, you estimable colleague did have a good point," I said. "We are in a forest, which means we are surrounded by many big evergreens. You could try looking at the next instructions on the map and see if that helps you get anywhere."
  "Good idea. Isn't that a good idea, Vare?" Daniel asked.
  Varina grunted in response.
  "That's a yes," Daniel told me. "Thank you for your help, Miss."
  "No problem," I said. "Wait right here a moment," I added. I couldn't let them go on without water bottles. I legged it back to the clearing, grabbed two unopened bottles from the pile, and then legged it back to Daniel and Varina.
  "Here," I said, distributing the much-needed liquid.
  "Thank you," Varina said, opening her bottle and glugging it down.
  "Thank you," Daniel echoed.
  "No problem," I said again and, while they were drinking, slipped off to rejoin the youth group.
THE END

Now onto the snippets...

  In my head I had been reading her resume like I read books to Sally - you know, with the funny voices and all that - and when I opened my mouth to speak to Gwendolyn, the back of my throat was sore, as if I really had been reading aloud in funny voices. I cleared my throat with a rumble and thrice more with other unpleasant sounds which was a mistake because it made my throat hurt even more.
  "Mee, mee, mee, mee, mee..." I warbled, like in my old barbershop quartet days, trying to sooth the vocal chords.
  Gwendolyn was staring at me as if I'd gone completely mad and thrown my hat to a perfect stranger in the park in winter - which was absurd, of course. I hadn't done such a thing since my quartet days. That, however, was not the thing to tell a girl you're interviewing for the job of nanny.
  "My throat," I said by way of explanation. I had meant to say it the way blokes do in pictures - suave, smooth, sophisticated, so that even if what come out was perfect rot, everyone would nod and smile understandingly. Unfortunately, my vocal chords decided to wreak havoc on my plan and, when I said, "my throat," my voice cracked and raised to the pitch of opera star for a brief second. Perhaps I'd missed my calling.
  "I do hope I'm not coming down with something." Now it sounded as if my voice had decided to take a spin down a gravel road. In a rickety old carriage.
  Gwendolyn just stared and said nothing, dear girl.
-When I wrote this on the spur of the moment the other night right before turned my light out, I had no idea who this person was that was having such atrocious voice problems. I didn't even know if it was a male or female. The next night, however, he decided to reveal himself to me. His name is George and he has troublesome twin brothers named Oscar and Arthur and two daughters. There's more, but I don't want to tell you yet. I think it's going to turn out rather Wodehousian, though. Rather Jeeves and Woosterish, what?

  King Francis' castle, unlike King John's, looked as if it came out of a book of princess stories. It had spires which reached to the sky, crawling vines creeping down the pale stone walls, bright banners billowing boisterously in the wind, and glorious gardens galore. The whole effect was bright, open, and airy.
  The Great Hall - which was the first room which one entered in to after passing through the massive double doors - really was great. You had to crane your head all the way back just to see the ceiling; and what a ceiling it was. Arches criss-crossed in the Romanesque style and designs had been frescoed between the arches.
  One visitor to the castle sustained permanent neck damage from ogling the mind-boggingly beautiful roof. The royal family was good enough to pay the hospital fee and hire the best full-time nurse in the kingdom. (Years later, she decided that since she was his full time caretaker anyway, why not marry the man and be his wife too? The lived happily ever after and had ten children, all of whom were taught to look at the ground, so as not to strain their necks. For years, everyone thought the children were shy and antisocial, when, actually, the opposite was true. They were quite boorish and outgoing, when you got to know them well).
-This is from my yet-unnamed fantasy novel, which I have been working on all year. The ceilings are based off of ones we saw in Holland:

I've also been semi-writing a Beauty and the Beast retelling for the Five Enchanted Roses contest. I wasn't planning on writing one - because everyone and their sainted aunt seem to be writing one - but then I had a persistent plot ploy and had to write it down. The only problem is that, for some reason, I can't get it out of my head that Beauty and the Beast is supposed to be a solemn story, and I can't write serious fiction. Example: In After the Twelfth Night, two characters are having a pretty nice heart-to-heart moment and then one of the characters blurts out "I never knew my father!"

*facepalm*

Live long and prosper.

Day 12: I want to ride my bicycle, bicycle, bicycle...

We did two exciting things on this day... The first was go for a bicycle ride! How can you go to Holland and NOT ride a bicycle? It is the primary mode of transportation in The Netherlands.

So what do you see while biking around the countryside? Well, cows, for one. And sheep. And horses. And geese. And other various farm animals. Also ostriches.

No, don't ask me why. We also saw a camel, but didn't get a picture.

We also went to an open market which was SO fun! Mostly because I found a book stall... where I found two Tintin books in Dutch! Huzzah! Also, a really cool comic book version of The Hound of the Baskervilles and one of The Phantom of the Opera which both follow the books almost exactly, and are in Dutch! It was really nice.

For dinner, we went to a nice restaurant for fish. I'm not a huge fish fan, so I got a type of cumin pasta. It was really good... except the bowl they gave me was enough for about five people to eat out of! On top of that, we had all sorts of appetizer/extra things to eat too, like salad, vegetables, and krokets! And on top of the pasta, for some reason, there were eggs.
After letting the food settle for a bit, we ordered ice cream.

This picture does not convey how much FOOD there was in that bowl.

Camp NaNoWriMo is going good! I'm about 10,500 words into my 30,000.
And now, for your reading pleasure, a snippet (for clarification, the character is going to a masquerade dressed as a cat):

Rozella slipped into her gown. Well, more like it was pulled, heaved, and yanked onto her body. Then it had to be strapped and laced onto her. By the time Lynnie and the other maids were finished with her, Rozella felt as if she were wearing her bed curtains. This was by far the heaviest gown she'd ever worn. She didn't know how she was ever going to dance in it - or even walk or sit for that matter! The thing even had a tail to follow her about the room.

~~~
Things on the reading front are also going well. I've finished three books this month, I believe! One of which is The World of Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse. I love Wodehouse... In the next week, I'm hoping to finish Agatha Christie's Autobiography and perhaps a short non-Jeeves-and-Wooster Wodehouse book.
To look for in the nearish future...
1. Review of Great Expectations.
2. Review of To The Lighthouse.
3. The last few posts from Holland.
4. Piano recital video(s).
The past seven days...
...of NaNoWriMo have passed in a blur.
I'm currently 63 words away from 14,000 words and I'm finally starting to enjoy my novel.
It's titled A Pretty Face Can Hide An Evil Mind. It's a line that comes from this song:
Daniel and Varina, my heroes from my two previous NaNo projects (NaNoWriMo 2012, and Camp NaNoWriMo in April 2013) have to go undercover to stop a dastardly plot to destroy the government.
The first 8,000 words or so were very painful to write. Not because of anything evil... It's just I'm so burned out from all the work on After the Twelfth Night that my writing has fallen to a very low quality. Finally, though, things are starting to warm up. I'm starting to enjoy my characters more. There's more description (the first 8,000 words or so are almost all primary dialogue) and my writing has finally gotten to a level where I feel comfortable sharing snippets!
Here, have the one good piece of writing in all 14,000 words (and it's a very raw "good" piece of writing):
Varina lovingly pulled out Mansfield Park by Jane Austen and settled down to read, forgetting her tiredness for the moment.
Daniel chose a shorter book to read – if, indeed it could even be called a book. He had to search through the bag carefully, but finally he found what he was looking for… Down on the very bottom was a collection of Beethoven sonatas, which he took out and began studying intently, occasionally breaking out in a spurt of humming, while his fingers exuberantly played an invisible keyboard on the bed in front of him.
Mansfield Park because I just started reading it last night and I'm really enjoying it so far! Though I do feel sorry for Fanny.
While my story has started warming up... my character's have decided to turn on me. Alright, maybe not all of them at once... But Daniel has given me two pieces of information - one helpful, and one not-so-much.
The helpful one is that he finally told me his middle name(s)! Lots of ideas and two books later... he finally told me his middle name(s).
Here, have the only other piece of goodish writing from the first 14k:
“So, names,” said the Big Boss. “We were thinking of Rupert for you, Daniel.”
“Sorry,” said Daniel. “Rupert is my middle name.”
“I thought Charles was your middle name?” asked the Big Boss. “That’s what the file says…” he started digging around for Daniel’s file.
“Charles is my middle name, sir…” said Daniel, turning a little red. “But Rupert is my middle name too. Daniel Charles Rupert Adams.”
“The Third?” asked Varina.
“No, but I have high hopes for my first born son,” said Daniel.
As well as giving me his middle names... Daniel has also decided to spring on me that he went to Juilliard for a year in his late teens. Juilliard is one of the foremost music school in the world (I believe... I actually don't know too much about it). I was thinking, okay, that's fine. Just so long as Juilliard isn't in New York. I looked it up. It's in New York! This is a problem, Daniel! Why? Because Daniel is from England and before the first book in my series, he had never been to New York... so I thought. Even now, he's cowering in a corner and apologizing in an adorable stammer. He didn't think it was relevant until now... he's sorry...
Yeah, well, you should have thought about telling me before I started writing this series, Daniel Adams!
I'm not crazy, I promise. Okay, maybe a little crazy.
Anyway, I've been listening to quite a bit of Vivaldi and Paul McCartney. And a song called Weep You No More, Sad Fountains, which I would really like to sing in voice lessons. And I've been listening to a few of the songs from The Great Train Robbery movie. It has a super cool soundtrack.
Well, back to writing! I want to get at least 150 more words before updating my word count and doing something else.
Look forwards to a review of Canterbury Tales coming soon... I finally finished it! Huzzah! That was a painful book to get through.
Caught up!
I realised last night after I had turned off my computer that I forgot to do a Top Tuesdays.... Sorry 'bout that. I'll make up for it next Tuesday.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been hurriedly writing writing writing tonight! The weekend at the Hot Springs got me behind on my Camp NaNoWriMo progress but I finally buckled down and caught up tonight.
I reached my climax today and am hoping I can find 9,882 words of denouement somewhere.... I have a few things planned.
Since I haven't been the most motivated writer the past few days (hence the need to get caught up) I came up with a way to get myself motivated today. I told myself that if I wrote 1,000 words in half an hour, I could watch one episode of Get Smart (which are also half an hour long).
Get Smart is a spy TV show that was on during the '60's (and also a movie in 2008 starring different people than in the TV show).
My friend Jen first told me about the show... but I really had no clue what she was talking about. Just that it was a super funny slapstick spy show with a girl named 99.
Then Miss Jack Baillot started posting about the show on her blog and I thought, "hey, why not check it out?" So a few months ago I watched the first episode and loved it. I think I watched one or two other episode after that... And haven't watched any since.
Maxwell Smart, the main character, with his shoe phone - my favorite gadget from the show.
Last night I re-watched the first episode. Today, after I wrote 1,000 words, I watched the second episode. Then 1,000 more words and the third episode... Then 500ish more words and I was all caught up! My word count is now 40,118.
What's the consequence of watching Get Smart? This snippet from my novel that I wrote tonight:
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. If I were you, I would put the weapon down on the ground,” the man said coolly.
“Why?” Varina asked suspiciously.
“Oh… because you’re surrounded,” the man said casually, picking at one of his fingernails. The surrounding trees and bushes rustled and out popped men, all dressed in black - like the man in front of Daniel, Varina, and the Big Boss – and carrying guns surrounding the trio. They were surrounded!
Daniel groaned. “Oh no, not the old hide your secret agents in the woods and send one out before unveiling them all trick! That’s the second time I’ve fallen for that this month!”
Varina stared at Daniel. “No more Get Smart re-runs for you,” she said.
In all its unedited glory!
While writing tonight, I have been listening to my Music to Spy By CD from the International Spy Museum. I love that CD... It's great. Especially when writing a spy novel.
Now I'm going to go watch some Trek Nation clips.
But before I go, I shall leave you with this:
Max and 99.
Live long and prosper!
Top Tuesday: Top things I've written tonight.
Since I'm doing Camp NaNo I decided to do the top couple sentences that I've written tonight, since I can't think of anything else right now.
I won't put them in any particular order....
The next morning was Christmas!
Daniel was rudely awakened by Jamie-Beatrice who came running into room screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!”
The above the first thing I wrote tonight because I couldn't think of anything else to say.... I'm having a bit of writer's block.
"Get up get up! Breakfast is at eight! Pancakes! Hurry!"
Because my cousin and I always have pancakes for breakfast at Grama's. That's the logical Christmas breakfast for my characters.
Daniel quietly sat down at the piano and, with the soft pedal on to muffle the sound for those still sleeping upstairs, began to play Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow.
Which prompted me to go play a bunch of Christmas songs on the piano. I ended with Gershwin... which wasn't Christmas but a special request made by mijn vader.
“I burn everything I try to cook, even cereal,” Jamie-Beatrice said.
Daniel laughed. “You too?
These two are really fun to write.... Daniel is 24 and Jamie-Beatrice is Varina's 14-year-old sister.
There we go, not much. But, as I said, I'm having a bit of writer's block. Only got 1,040 words written tonight. It's been an emotional day. And now it is 9:30 and I want to get off so I can get to bed earlier. Hopefully tomorrow I can introduce my plot.... I thought that last November I was doing horribly because my plot didn't come in until around 9,000ish words. Well, I'm at 17,400 words and my plot hasn't made an appearance yet. It will come in soon though.... Hopefully tomorrow. Possibly Thursday. Sometime this week. Hopefully before 20,000 words but that's doubtful. I'm gonna have a fuuuun time editing all the extra not-needed stuff out....
Live long and prosper!
P.S. Sorry about the wonky font.
"I do not cough for my own amusement," replied Kitty fretfully.
My best thinking time is when I'm taking a shower. I don't know why, but my best ideas come when I'm in the shower. As a result, I tend to take 30-45 minute showers because I'm so absorbed in my own thoughts, I wash veeeeerrryy slowly.
This morning I had quite a few "aha!" moments in the shower.
One was another how-Sherlock-survived-the-fall theory. Maybe Kitty, the reporter ("You repel me" girl), had something to do with it! I mean, she had access to Moriarty and Sherlock both. What if Sherlock hired her to spy on Moriarty? That way, he would know Moriarty's plans.
I promise, no more Sherlock theorys... I just can't help it. They started filming season three two days ago. The first episode is called The Empty Hearse which I think is SO hilarious because the book where Sherlock comes back after being "dead" for three years is called The Empty House.
As well as coming up with that theory, I came up with a background and a motive for a character. Perhaps I shall someday elaborate on him because he is quite interesting.
I also did some brainstorming that I have been putting off. I had to figure out a bunch of different ways for people to do stuff. Now I have that figured out and I can go on with the planning of the third novel in my spy series (which I'm writing second because I thought it would be second... but it turns out it fits better as third).
Have I mentioned that I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo next month? You can set your word count goal for anything that you choose (within the peramiters of 10,000 and 999,999 words I think... I don't remember). I'm going to try and do another 50,000 word novel. The third book in my spy series starring Daniel and Varina. More info on that as it comes.
Yesterday I read a little bit in each book that I'm currently reading. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Pride and Prejudice, The Princess Bride, and even a few pages of The Two Towers!
My library finally got in a copy of Agatha Christie's first mystery starring the detective Poirot. I'll probably start that soon too..... I can never read just one book at a time.
Tomorrow I'm going to Canada for a few days to play board games and Nintendo with my cousin. It shall be fun. But it also means I'll disappear for a few days, which is fine.
I thought I'd do something special to tide you over until whenever I do my next blog post (please note my sarchasm).
Some snippets from various works of mine! Now, since I'm still quite new to the novel-writing sphere, there won't be too many snippets from different novels.... Mostly just After the Twelfth Night and the first spy novel (which I am dreading opening... because it is so rough. I'm afraid).
Enjoy:
   "I would like to go ashore as soon as possible," said Sebastian. "Seeing that the island is large and we all have families we want to get back to-"
   "I don't!" Dogberry piped up. "I have my family here with me!" He patted Jamie on the shoulder; Matthias was under guard in his room.
   ".....Most of us have families we want to get back to-"
   "I don't! I have my Sebastian right here!" Olivia said. "I'm SO glad I came on this little journey!"
   "As I was saying," Sebastian continued loudly, "most of us have families we want to get back to so the sooner we start searching the ialdn for the treasure, the sooner we can get back to our families."
- After the Twelfth Night Part 2.
   "Those beslubbering fat-kidneyed hugger muggers!"
- After the Twelfth Night Part 2.
   In the background the second voice piped up, "Give me that!" and evidently snatched the phone away. "Who are you and what have you done with my sister?" demanded the younger voice which was totally unlike Caroline's sweet tones. Instead, of sweet and quiet, this girl was loud and fiery.
   "I've done nothing with your sister," Daniel replied.
   "What are you? A creeper? A stalker? A murderer? I could have the police there in five minutes! Or the army! How would you like the army? My sister is in the army! She could probably beat you up and kill you! Although that would probably land her in jail....."
   "I-" Daniel attempted to say.
   Just then Varina emerged from her room down the hall.
   "Marines? No! You don't have to call in the marines!" Daniel was saying when Varina rescued him by taking the phone.
- 3rd Spy book (I admit, I wrote the first chapter back in December.)
   "Please, Sebastian, introduce us to your friends and then sit down!" said the fat man.
   "Of course, Uncle," Sebastian replied. He turned and gestured to Antony. "This is Antony. His father saved me from drowning in a ship wreck."
   "Son of a sailor are you?" Sebastian's uncle asked.
   "Yes, sir. Actually, Father was a pirat....." Jamie elbowed Antony in the ribs and he coughed. "Yes, sir."
- After the Twelfth Night part 2.
   Inside the bustling airport, Daniel and Varina got their tickets and headed to their gate to wait for the plane.
   "Let's stop and get something to eat first, please?" Daniel asked.
   "We just had breakfast! Surely you aren't hungry again?" Varina said.
   Daniel shrugged and pointed to a cafe cozily situated between the Hudson News store and a place to buy luggage.
   "I think everyone has luggage here...." Daniel muttered as they past the luggage store.
   "I hope so!" giggled Varina.
- You Don't Find Them, They Find You.
   "Whoa!" said Antony, spotting the sword in Antonio's raised hand. "Are you planning on killing me?" he joked.
   "No," replied Antonio, scowling. He started to walk away from the boy, hoping to lose him.
   "Where are you going? Can I come?" asked Antony, matching Antonio's stride.
   "I'm going to find a friend. And no, you can't."
- After the Twelfth Night Part 1.
   The passengers grabbed their seat rests to keep from jerking about. The wind and rain played tug of war with the plane, jostling it this way and that.
   "I can't believe it!" Varina yelled.
   "What?" Daniel asked in a panicked voice.
   "We met on a plane and now we're going to die together on one!"
   "No one said anything about dying!" Daniel said in the best reassuring voice he could muster. Suddenly the plane went into a nose dive. Everyone screamed and the last thing Varina remembered before she blacked out was Daniel's hand reaching back and grabbing her's.
- You Don't Find Them, They Find You.
So what did you think? Are you interested? I'm still toying with the idea of publishing.... But people have to be interested in my writing in order for me to publish it. Finishing the books would also help. xD
Live long and prosper! Have a good weekend.
Mr. Thick and a whole lot of random.
Today I went to a lovely store called Costco which is right up there with Barnes and Nobles on my list of favorite stores.
I drove to Costco... And all the other stores Mom and I went to today. We were gone shopping all afternoon, thus I didn't have anytime to write until 7:30ish. (I also had saxophone lessons tonight which didn't help). Driving has become easier and I think I know what I'm doing now.
My word count for NaNoWriMo is at approximately 41,075 right now (:P I got 9 more words than you Jess!) and I'm hoping to get at least to 41,100 tonight, which shouldn't be that hard.
I am almost at the climax of my story. I have some denouement planned but I am doubtful that my novel will reach 50,000 words. I'm expecting it to reach 49,000 odd words because I absolutely hate any number with "9" in it because I always think it would be so east just to go to "10." Why can't they go to ten???!*
Anyway, I'm pretty much fishing for words, trying to make the novel longer and longer.
This little snippet is partly for my word count and partly because I couldn't think of anything thicker than the layer of dust on the floor at the moment.... It will (probably, most likely...) be edited out.... But I couldn't help myself.
The museum was astounding, even in the dark. Of course, many of the exhibitions had been removed to storage and a layer of dust thicker than Mr. Thick, Thick, Thickety Thickface from Thick Town, Thickania (and his dad) coated the floor.
You see what the BBC and Doctor Who has reduced me to?! Moffat!
Now I bid thee all a fond farewell for this post has been a bunch of babble and I still need to write 20 or 30 more words before I can settle back watch the BBC's production of Little Dorrit which we have borrowed from the library.
(I want to make one!)
*James Fenimore Cooper, the author of The Last of the Mohicans (which I am supposed to be reading right now but Starcross by Philip Reeve keeps getting in the way**) was born on September 15. He died (some sixty or so years later) on September 14. I was so annoyed by that... He could live just ONE more day?? Then it would have been even! I bet I'll die on the eve of my 100th birthday. How the people who know my little pet peeve will laugh.....
**I was hanging out at the quilt store with my mom before saxophone lessons (we were early) and she was looking at the quilt books and I was reading Starcross and one of the worker ladies came up to us and said, "I just want to let you know that the store is closing in 10 minutes." My mom said thank you and then the lady asked me what I was reading and if I was enjoying it. I showed her the cover and said I was enjoying it. Her face lit up (she was an older lady - in her 50's perhaps?) and she said, "Oh I love Philip Reeve! Did you read Larklight? How about his Mortal Engines series? They are so good! I love him!"
As C.S. Lewis says.... "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one!'"
I should be writing.
After battling blackberries with my youth group yesterday afternoon (we were victorious!) I was so exhausted that I lay on the couch and spent countless hours stealing pictures from people's Pinterest boards (I think I got the above picture from Clair's?). I don't have Pinterest... Never let me get one. I already spend too much time on it without an account.
Anyway, I'm trying to get to 35,000 words tonight. I'm at 34,000 right now but I just wrote something positively brilliant that just has to be shared so here it is:
Cal smiled at them. “While I go talk with Millie – she’s the innkeeper – you two are welcome to wander about and talk with people – you can even dance if you are feelin’ brave!” Cal pointed out a number of people to Daniel and Varina, “Over there is Justin Case our sheriff. And over there playin’ the piano is our oldest livin’ resident, Fun Gus!” Cal winked at Daniel. “You might enjoy talkin’ to Gus. You’re a musical person, I can tell by your hands.” Then Cal walked away leaving Daniel and Varina stared dumbfounded at each other.
“My…. hands?” Daniel asked while Varina grabbed Daniel’s hands and examined them.
“How did he know that? Even I can’t tell that…. You have it wrong Daniel. I’m not like Sherlock Holmes, he is!” Varina exclaimed.
Live long and prosper!
