Powder your face with sunshine!

 

I'm stuck. I know what I want to happen.... I just don't know how to go about putting it on paper (or, in my case, the word document). So I'm sitting here writing this blog post and listening to Dean Martin.

 

I can't believe I haven't listened to him for nearly a year..... Here or there I would listen to one or two songs.... but I really haven't listened to him since last spring when we were on our long road trip and I got a migraine while listening to him.

 

But I can't stay away from his voice for too long. I just love it. And the music he sings too. He sings quite a bit in Italian (because he is Italian) and lots of jazz. But he also broadens into other genres as well... He has a few countryish songs which are kind of fun. "Goin' back to Houston! Houston! Houston!"
He was also part of the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.....

 

And he has lots of amusing lyrics. "I haven't eaten in about a week, I'm so hungry that when I walk I squeak." "Standing on the corner, watching all the girls go by...." "I'd cry like a baby if you told me goodbye, I'd feel like a snowball on the fourth of July..... I'd cry like a baby with a busted balloon...."

First I want to show you a picture I have drawn of the late George Harrison!

George Harrison is perhaps most well known for being part of the band Beatles. I personally love the Beatles and I will be drawing the other members of the band sometime in the future...

For Christmas I got a giftcard to Barnes and Nobles from my Grama and Grandpa. I couldn't find any books that were worth my owning so I decided to get a few CD's instead! They were having a "buy 2 get 1 free" sale so instead of buying two CD's with my giftcard, I got three!

The first CD is the soundtrack to the movie Sherlock Holmes. Although the movie isn't one of my favorites, I adore the soundtrack! It's so eccentric! I especially the like hammer dulcimer music scattered throughout the music.... I am going to learn the hammer dulcimer soon but I'll talk about that in a separate post. =) My favorite pieces on this instrumental CD are probably the first three, "Discombobulate," "Is it Poison Nanny," and "I Never woke up in Handcuffs before."
The second CD is "Dino: The Essential Dean Martin." My best friend owns this CD and I have always loved it. Along with Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, and singers like them, Dean Martin was introduced to me by my best friend. I've been listening to them since I was seven or eight. This particular Dean Martin CD has all my favorite songs on it from "Mambo Italiano" to "Powder your face with Sunshine (Smile, smile, smile)."
The third CD is Michael Buble. I absolutely LOVE Michael Buble. He has the smoothest, nicest voice I have ever heard! He sings jazz. Before he was famous, his grandfather, who was a plumber, used to offer clubs a free plumbing job if Michael would be able to sing on their stage.
I am VERY happy with this Michael Buble CD and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to buy a Michale Buble CD. I love nearly all of the songs on it.
The first song is "Feeling Good." MB's version is jazzy and smooth and sounds like it could be right out of a spy movie! This is the first MB song I ever heard and remains one of my favorites.
The sixth song on this CD is called "Can't Buy me Love." Sound familiar? It's a Beatles song! When I first saw the back of the CD case I was thinking, "Can't Buy me Love.... Hmmm... I've heard that name before... Is it a Queen song? No... NO! It's the Beatles!!" So I looked in the little booklet thing that comes in all CD's and sure enough, it was credited to "Lennon/McCartney."
Michael Buble's version is sooooo fantastic! He has his own twist on it. His version is much more jazzy than the original song (which I love as well) but it sounds so cool! I love it!
The 10th song is also written by someone other than Buble. It is called "How Sweet it is." I loved this song before I got the CD... I didn't even realize it was on the CD at first. Then I saw that it was and I was like, "Yes!! I love this song!"
I have listened to all three CD's already, even though I only got them yesterday afternoon, and I highly recommend all three!

I suppose I should post this and head off now.... I have class in the morning! The last one of this semester. This week ends the Civil War and next week starts the World Wars.
